Suspension corrected rigid disc 26" fork make DIY
Postby twowheels » Mon Mar 30, 2020 7:23 pm
My question relates to whether to construct the rigid fork to match the suspension fork in which range of travel. I would think with the regular rider seated, ie with some susp fork compression. Rather than fully extended or compressed.
Thanks.

My bold: not necessarily, 26" wheel was standard for all disciplines of MTB until not all that long ago - a downhill bike could have upward of 200mm travel.
That out of the way, allowing for sag is not a dumb idea; find out what travel fork the bike was designed for, find the fully-extended axle-crown measurement for said fork (or at least an average, because not all forks of a given travel have the same A-C measurement), then reduce by 20% of the designed travel for rigid.

Just to clarify, you recommend doing this by way of calculation, rather than sitting on the bike and having an assistant measure?Duck! wrote: ↑Mon Mar 30, 2020 11:00 pmMy bold: not necessarily, 26" wheel was standard for all disciplines of MTB until not all that long ago - a downhill bike could have upward of 200mm travel.

BTW - if anyone has an existing DXF (or Autodesk Inventor part) file of the disc brake mount, ie to weld onto the fork that would be useful.

They would have all the specs you need and as they no longer make the 26 version they maybe happy to help ( FWIW I run the 29er version of the same, no expert on all things forks but works for me)
https://salsacycles.com/components/cate ... to_26_disc
I believe the fork was built for and around the ala carte https://salsacycles.com/bikes/archive/ala_carte1
The 26 inch disc and canti models had a differing travel base 100 vs 80mm... I think

If the sag is correctly set the result will be the same. Calculate it.

5-10mm is hardly likely to make a big difference either.

Had done this before I saw the request for photos. Still find posting photos on BNA burdensome. Perhaps something someone locked down could make more user friendly.
Will take home & check it out. Then make up a jig for the disc brake bracket. Possibly draw it on Autodesk Inventor & cut with plasma cutter.
Some professional development is worth attending!

If it works you'll see the two halves tack welded. Modified Vee Brake bridge and front hub to keep all aligned.

Pic not working or in private, haven't you used the Preview button to check if it worked or not before you submitted it in post.twowheels wrote: Okay, I asked elsewhere, I'll try with one photo first

Measure, template, measure ... 49 mm altered to 50 mm as result of templating process
Locating jig drawm with Autodesk Inventor. This will be sheet metal cut with plasma cutter and bolted between left inner fork & hub. 4 mm (heat insulated) spacer will be placed atop the jig, then the 6 mm mild steel disc brake mount bracket itself.

I've changed a setting, visible now?

Google do get problems of uploading pics.
