Shoppers stuck in car-park of a new IKEA for FOUR HOURS

The newly opened shop left cars nose-to-tail as people tried to escape the rush

ANGRY shoppers were stuck in a new IKEA car-park after they became trapped for up to FOUR HOURS while trying to leave.

The Swedish superstore in Reading opened last week with hundreds of people queuing up pick out some flat-pack bargains, but the store may have already lost some of its customers after the drama last night.

Passengers were seen getting out of the cars as tempers began to flare and horns blared around the car-park as frustration grew.

Police were called to attempt to disperse some of the traffic, but some cars still queued for more than an hour having moved only a matter of yards.

One Facebook user claimed there was a crash near the 1,000 space car-park.

Jessica Sarson wrote: "Car park floor 1, IKEA Reading can we have some water please. Also please put something on news/twitter warning people not to come here."

Guests were seen demanding water from staff as the temperatures soared well above 20 degrees Celsius.

Angry visitors took to social media site Twitter to express their anger at the store's car park. Some said they had been trapped for more than three hours while others asserted they would never visit the store again.

Bridget Beckett wrote: "Completely spoiled the experience #ikeareading. I have been stuck in a car park for 45 minutes and moved 30 yards. Someone needs to organise this now."

Cariad Morgan added: "Any chance of playing a happy song for the people of #ikeareading who have been stuck in car park for more than 2 hours! #fedup ."

Despite the chaos Tink Jones praised the staff working yesterday and said: "Staff on the top floor of the car park in Reading have been absolute superstars this afternoon, handing out water and snacks to everyone stuck in the queues caused by the crash on the motorway, staying cheerful and responsive even though they were stuck out in the blazing hot sunshine and having to deal with idiots being irrationally angry and aggressive towards them for no reason.

"At least we could sit with the air conditioning on in our cars! Massive thanks to all for managing a difficult situation very well."

Helen Grant wrote on Facebook: "Stuck in traffic coming out of Ikea Reading still in the car park, however your staff are doing a fab job trying to get it sorted.

"People giving them grief is not fair and inexcusable."

Ashlee Conway wrote: "According to staff an accident caused issues with traffic which made the entrance and exit very congested. Police weren't letting anybody in to IKEA for some time to allow people to exit the car park."

Stacey Barber said: "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU LETTING MORE PEOPLE IN THE CAR PARK????? #ikeareading."

Andrea added: "#ikeareading I have escaped! Would ask about a refund for my Daim cake defrosting, but I'd have to visit the store again for it."
