nRF Toolbox on Android DFU file selection

Testing OTA using nRF Toolbox on Android. Everything works fine, but for some reason the file selection is "stuck" in dropbox, i.e. I can not go up a level from dropbox, and I can't see a setting that would affect this.

  • Hi John

I dont really understand where you are stuck.

When I fetch file via dropbox, I do the following:

    • Drag i.e. dfu_test_app_hrm_s110.zip from \nRF51_SDK_9.0.0_2e23562\examples\dfu\ble_dfu_send_hex\test_images_update and into dropbox on my PC
    • download and install the dropbox app on my Android phone
    • Open nRFToolbox DFU app, press "Select File", choose "Distribution packet (ZIP)
    • Select to open file from Dropbox, browse to the Dropbox location and select the dfu_test_app_hrm_s110.zip file
    • Press "Select device" and select device with the "DfuTarg" name (DfuTarg is the default name for the bootloader in the nRF51 SDK)
    • Press "Upload" to upload the application to the device via bootloader

    Update:

Perhaps I know now what you mean. :)

I could not go up a level either, but when selecting the file in dropbox I had to press the cross in the upper left corner, then select dropbox again and then I could go up one level by pressing the area to the left of the "Choose a file in "

Let me know if that makes sense

  • No. I still can't get out(up a level) from Dropbox. I have tried to do what you have outlined, but I can't get the same results. I never see an option to "Choose a file in . I am still stuck in dropbox. It's not a showstopper, but I would like to be able to use a file from somewhere else!

  • I have an older version(1.14.2) of nRF Toolbox installed on another Android device, and that gives me a screen that says "open from", but on the 1.16.0 on my phone I never see that option.

  • That is strange. I am also using nRFToolbox 1.16.0. When I select the file I select, application, bootloader, softdevice or distribution packet. I select it and press "ok" and then the "open from" screen pops up automatically. There I can choose to open from either dropbox or File Manager HD.

File Manager HD is an app that I installed on the phone in order to browse the file system on the phone. I can put files manually to the phone by connecting it to PC via USB and browsing the file system from on my phone from the PC. I drag and drop the distribution file to the Nordic Semiconductor folder on the phone and then I can fetch it from nRFToolbox by clicking Select file -> choosing type of file -> Choose "File Manager HD" -> Choose "Device" -> Choose "Nordic Semicondutor" folder and there I find the distribution file.

  • The "open from" screen should open automatically if you have Android 4.4 or newer, so if you have old Android verison, try to upgrade.
